I'd say he's near the level that Mascherano was at before he left to join Barcelona unfortunately Lucas is surrounded by absolute shit now if you want to talk about teams missing players badly look at the drop Liverpool have had since he got injured in December. Wilshere probably won't be fit by the new season and I want Song to be more advanced so it makes perfect sense we buy a defensive midfielder whether it's him or someone like M'vila. Only someone delusional would think we are fine in that department.Chris wrote:Do you think Lucas is as good as any of them?Theo Filippo wrote:Because we need to win the ball back and we don't do it well enough? I suppose players like Makelele, Van Bommel and Mascherano are pointless.
Lets replace one of our best midfielders Song or Arteta with Lucas. Right..

We should play Song in the hole in front of Arteta and a new defensive midfielder if Wilshere isn't ready for the start of next season.

Well that isn't all is it? Do you really think after 12 months out Wilshere is just going to come back into the team fresh and start where he left off in the 2010-11 season? I don't think so it will take him a good few months and that's presuming he has a decent pre-season. You are probably being so objective about the idea because it's a Liverpool player I bet if I mentioned M'vila instead you wouldn't be saying anything.

M'Vila would be amazing too, doubt Liverpool would be willing to let Lucas leave to us anyway.

Probably 15-20 million pounds. Isn't he desperate to not return to Juventus?

Lucas would be a good player for us but if he left Liverpool why would he join us, especially knowing he probably won't be considered a first team starter in a fully fit squad?
Brb spending £15m+ on a bench player.
I honestly think Vertonghen is as good a DM as Lucas (he's a cb too and can play lb). He would also cost half as much

Nothing to do with him being a Liverpool player. I wouldn't swap any of Wilshere--Song--Arteta for M'vila either. For depth sure.. bring Lucas is but he wouldn't start in our strongest 11 for me.Theo Filippo wrote:Well that isn't all is it? To think you would swap him for Arteta in our first 11.. taking away creativity, experience and crucial goals for a ball winner LOL.

You said you want Song more advanced so that just leaves Wilshere.. how could Jack get back to his best if we're starting Lucas over him?

Koscielny is easily our 3rd fastest player, joint with Gervinho.

He needs to get fit and injury free before we even think about thrusting him into the team he probably won't play until November-December time next season, I somehow forgot to mention the last few games we have been slightly shifting towards a diamond formation so there's possibly going to be 4 midfield spots available if we continue with it.Chris wrote:You said you want Song more advanced so that just leaves Wilshere.. how could Jack get back to his best if we're starting Lucas over him?

To be honest, Lucas isn't techincally gifted enough for us, rather us get Vertonghen.
M'Vila would be amazing though.

This is only surprising if it includes Miyiachi. I reckon Walcott and Gibbs are the top two. No one else is even close so it's a toss up between the likes Koscielny, Chamberlain and Gervinho.

I said I wouldn't have Lucas starting over Wilshere, Song or Arteta.. I wouldn't mind him as a squad player. It seems you wouldn't either when Jack is fit so why have you bothered to debate when you agree?Theo Filippo wrote:He needs to get fit and injury free before we even think about thrusting him into the team he probably won't play until November-December time next season, I somehow forgot to mention the last few games we have been slightly shifting towards a diamond formation so there's possibly going to be 4 midfield spots available if we continue with it.Chris wrote:You said you want Song more advanced so that just leaves Wilshere.. how could Jack get back to his best if we're starting Lucas over him?

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
Don't get me wrong Lucas is a good player, Vortonghen is pretty good too, he's a better tackler in my opinion and better in the air. He actually seems like a good passer of the ball too. Lucas just seems like a very unrealistic signing. Liverpool would probably want a crazy sum for him if they decided they would sell him. After all he is their most important midfielder.Theo Filippo wrote:Based on what?Grenade wrote:Lucas would be a good player for us but if he left Liverpool why would he join us, especially knowing he probably won't be considered a first team starter in a fully fit squad?

I think Ryo, Afobe and Chamberlain are faster than Forhead on the 40m test. Koscielny must be the fastest cb in the league if this is true though ?The Bat-Man wrote:Koscielny is easily our 3rd fastest player, joint with Gervinho.

Forgot about Ryo, with Ryo I only think Walcott, Chamberlain and Ryo are faster than Koscielny, so yes he is the fastest CB in the league.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
I'd only have one of Arteta and Wilshere why have two playmakers in the team and no proper defensive midfielder? It's ridiculous that you are acting as if that midfield trio is untouchable yet they haven't even all played together. We need someone who will sit deep and not even think offensively like this:Chris wrote:I said I wouldn't have Lucas starting over Wilshere, Song or Arteta.. I wouldn't mind him as a squad player. If we did just maybe we wouldn't leak so many goals so going by your line up we are going to have an awful left-back, a defender that doesn't know how to position himself and leaves his position totally vacant (Vermaelen) two playmakers and a box to box midfielder who doesn't sit and cover Vermaelen going forward effectively.

Re: Official Arsenal FC Thread
I think Vertonghen could be our main target as a signing for that position, Filippo. He's a left sided player, and that is where our defence is at its weakest. It all makes sense
