He was actually good at centre back though my mate was saying he looks better there than at full-back.

Biggest part of Cole's best was his consistency, v Barcelone he kept Sanchez onside for a one on one, this is not his best, this is a huge error.Gatsby wrote:Hence the back to his best, didnt say he had been at his best all season did I?

Torres was brilliant today, I really hope he keeps his momentum going. Also nice to see Sturra score and Sam getting some time.
I agree, Bosingwa's true calling might be at CB.

Where else was he meant to be at his best then other then the Barca games where your whole team defended well with 10 defenders.. QPR in a game where you won 6-1? Cole's best was being isolated by wingers and destroying them one on one.

Surely that's not healthy for a club to buy players who they want rather than who the managers want.
It solely seems to represent more free-thinking from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, as Di Matteo said of the acquisition of Marin: "I tend to give my recommendation but, ultimately, the club decides who they want to sign.
"He's a very good player, technically very good, skilful.
"He will add some qualities to this team."
Abramovich has in the past been rumoured to have gone over the head of his Chelsea managers and the decision to sign Fernando Torres, who scored a hat-trick against QPR, in January 2011 is considered one of the signs of a breakdown in his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti.

Can't think of anything else?
I agree with kyro, can't call him 'back to his best' which implies his prime after two games.

inb4 kyro says AvB policy
I think the club has a certain image that it wants to achieve though, and the manager isn't exactly in charge of that, they're just in charge of the players, as Ancelotti said himself, he was basically no more than a coach.

You'd of thought they would have learnt their lesson by now.. Shevchenko, Lukaku, Torres, Bosingwa (Signed when Avram was there) and Zhirkov all club signings that have cost Chelsea about 135m? Not saying the Marin signing is bad especially at 6m but it's certainly not worked in the long run.

Not, thats just how Kyro always responds, plus I couldnt really be bothered arguing, all I said was he's played well the last couple of games and asked if he was back to his best, if people disagree thats fine.

Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
Yeah AVB said something similar, that Lukaku and De Bruyne were long-term-choices from the club rather than himself. In Germany etc where managers are something different than in England and there are coaches and sports directors deciding transfers together it's normal but I think the actual manager should always have the last word.Cam wrote:http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/7716554/

Can't put Lukaku down as a flop, he's still just a kid , or Torres as it looks like he's finally realised he's fucking Fernando Torres.
The Marin deal is good though, cause he was cheap, young, and if it goes tits up we'll still probably be able to at least make that £6m back.

I think we signed Bosingwa when Scolari was manager, It seems to make sense, also can hardly call Lukaku a failure when he's just arrived and is still so young. I do agree with your general point though.

I know I'm not writing them off but look how much has been spent on signings the manager hasn't really approved of. Mind you the last deal the club did with a German wasn't bad.luke. wrote:Theo Filippo wrote:You'd of thought they would have learnt their lesson by now.. Might have spoke to Scolari before they sacked Grant I guess.

Didn't he play CB v Spurs at some stage this season? I remember him playing there early in the season and he looked good then too.FishnChips wrote:Torres was brilliant today, I really hope he keeps his momentum going. Also nice to see Sturra score and Sam getting some time.

He did, and also did well against Barcelona and to be fair to him he also did a good job as a leftback also against Barcelona in 2009.Marvin wrote:Didn't he play CB v Spurs at some stage this season? I like how we just sang 'We need a song for Ramires, a song for Ramires' instead of actually giving him a proper song today.
Lmao, unstoppable.

Hoping Marin will be another Mata case, would love another world class star, haven't seen him enough though.
