That example is terrible, because the second "dirty cretin" sounds terrible. It takes a lot of the "zip" out of the insult.

A much better example would be if you kill a man with a baseball bat after a rush of blood to the head, but then, even after you have regained control, you go and kill another man with that same baseball bat.

You can see that that example has a stronger parallel to the issue at hand.
