Serie A is a bit easy with Palmero, currently 2nd and I only have like 19/20 players.
Also Pavel Nedved took over Juventus, he's now the Chairman.

what IF there was no player PA? ... there'll still be "CA" but it will only increase if the player is given playing time. and will increase at a higher rate if:
- he performs well in training and/or
- performs well during a match and/or
- has a good run of form and/or
- the club has good training facilities and/or
- player has high "ambition" as his hidden attribute
i mean, it's not fair that a 21 year old on a good run of form can't improve his game any further because the game gave him a locked PA of 140
I said something like this ages ago, its dumb some times. In my fm11 save coutinho was 20 when he hit his maximum potential just doesnt make any sense.

You'd still need a potential roof for the abilty though. As not all players will be as good as each other regardless of game time or other factors.
Something like the dynamic rep system would suit it more. The PA can go up or down depending on gametime, injuries etc.

Players don't keep developing though. They will stop at different ages, some sooner than others. Some will hit their peak at 21, some at 30.

You need that root ability cap though. Or else you end up with 20 world class talents in Sheffield Wednesday
Also, I think that within 5 years Messi will have "broken" the PA system on Football Manager.

sheffield wednes doesn't have world class facilities/coaches though. so naturally, their youngsters wouldn't grow as fast. maybe also add another bulletin where youngsters grow faster when they play against better leagues/opposition, or if they get called up to U-18's, U-21's etc

Hmm.. Interesting concept. It is somewhat biased to the big clubs, but that's actually not a bad thing... I like the idea.

but it's how it works IRL tho. youngsters never develop as quickly in smaller clubs and they shouldn't. if messi stayed at newells i don't think he'd be the player he is today. but the most important factor should still rely on playing time. even if a big club buys a good young player, he shouldn't keep developing if he doesn't get playing time (e.g. Nuri Sahin, Kakuta, etc). if anything, players' stats (especially of the physical nature) should go down drastically if the player keeps lacking meaningful match experience. yes some players peak early, some peak late, but i think that can be taken care of by the ambition/professionalism/naturalfitness stats. and as usual, players who rely on their physical attributes should peak much earlier than players who rely on their technical/mental attributes

That's one of the few things I find difficult in the current FM. If a youngster doesn't get playing time he simply doesn't become good at all, but surely playing regulary in the reserves, the youth squads on both domestic and national level should matter?

for fitness levels it should matter, but if you play a youngster in your senior team, he should justifiably be able to develop faster than just getting regular minutes in the youth team

I think that should depend on the quality of the youth development systems for each club. Let's say you have youngster who plays regularly in Argentina, he's 16 years old and bound to be a star, he is then bought by a European power-house like say Barcelona. Because Barcelona has so many good players he would never get a regular run of first team football, yet that wouldn't necessarily mean he wouldn't be able to maintain a level of development. Considering the overal quality of the training methods, the coaches, physios, and their academy at large, he would develop better in the academy than he would playing regularly in Argentina.
A youngster who has quality youngsters around him at all times will in all likelihood develop just as well in a quality academy than a youngster who plays regulary in a "smaller" league.

agreed. i was mostly referring to "youngsters" who are already past the age of 23. (they're still young enough to develop). players like afellay shouldn't keep developing at barca just because it's barca. but players who are still U-21 should still develop steadily in a successful youth system

Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
hmmm, i'm thinking about making a return to FM12 to complete my Roma save and then maybe move on to my Schalke side-save once i win everything at least 2-3 times with roma. i think i'm done for now with FM09
FM09 takes too long to advance with the lack of pre-set player instructions (such as box to box midfielder, deep lying forward, central defender cover, etc). every pre-match takes me about 15 minutes tweak player instructions especially if i'm playing against a significantly stronger or weaker team. and it's a pain in the ass to make a substitution or change tactics mid-way through a match, especially when conceding an early goal or two
i'll still keep FM09 installed just because i like the database especially their ratings for Roma . it's something i'll play a little now and then in the long run. i don't think i have the patience to play FM09 regularly
FM12 however.... fun

I can't start a match, it says that I've not assigned enough numbers so I press 'auto' and it still doesn't work.

I can't figure out what is wrong with Andrea Poli... No pressure at all, only needs to put a nice easy pass to his right, and instead he hits it long and loses posession.

manually adjust his player instruction slider for "passing" to short/mixed? either that or train him the "keeps passes simple" PPM?
poli hasn't been that great for me in FM12, he's still always nervous. bertolacci has been better, but it seems more of a motivation/confidence/determination thing really

Seems motivated to me, but he just doesn't perform. Like at all. Could be bad tactics of course :/
Edit:
The team is so umneven. Has a stormer against AC Milan, then does crap against Udinese and Samdoria, loses badly to Inter and then completely smashes Torino and Juventus...
