Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
I doubt Chelsea will ever significantly improve while the old guard remain in the team. For instance Lukaku will never get an extended run in the first team while Drogba's still there, likewise with Mceachran and Chalobah but with Lampard and Terry respectively.

Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
That is the problem.
Only JT has been up to it this season. We should be using the old guard not as starters but as back up. AVB initially was doing that but only with Lampard and only to replace him with Meireles who has been piss poor. I don't get how he said he wanted to keep Josh McEachran instead of loaning him at the beginning of the season only to give him a few cameo appearances here and there, same with Bertrand who has been great every time he's on and offers what Ashley Cole offers and a lot more...
Is he scared of completely phasing out the old guard? Who knows. Lampard clearly isn't that happy sitting on the bench. I think they all got used to being played whether they were poor or good just because of their names. We shouldn't have done that in the first place.
If you don't like sitting on the bench then fight for a place and improve your game and leave the dressing room drama out of it. If not then the door's open, simple.

I'm not too sure about that.Kuled wrote:You guys will bounce back soon enough, don't worry. (I'm being serious)
As I see it there's two ways:
1. AVB goes, the problematic players win and start performing again just like it has happened again and again.
2. AVB stays, the dressing room is still in WWIII and players don't give a fuck about football until he's sacked.
There's no third way I'm afraid. We would have bounced back way before this match and this clearly hasn't been the case. Our last wins were lucky ones (and the Portsmouth one was a fluke). The only games in which I have seen our players give their all has been Valencia at home, Citeh at home and United at home until the penalty spree started.

There is a 3rd way, AVB stays, Roman Abramovich backs him to the hilt and gets rid of the old guard.

Getting rid of the Old Guard should be a priority, they think they own the club...

Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
That wouldn't happen until the summer and the players taking part in this dressing room shite would still be a cancer in the team. The time to do that was in the summer and the last call was in December. AVB didn't take the gamble and now he's paying the price.
The only way I could see that working is effectively isolating the players from the first team, and I can't see that happening.

Of course, the real solution for Chelsea, and where they'll probably end up with Financial fair play, is to sink down to their natural level, an upper mid-table side who occasionally qualify for Europe, but lag behind Liverpool, Arsenal, United, Newcastle and Tottenham in the grander scheme of English football, and learn to be happy with that.

It's nothing to do with attitude, it's a reasonable prediction. You had a great few years off the back of Abramovich's oil money, but it was never going to last forever. Just be glad Leeds are still in the Championship.

It may be reasonable, if FFP ever really gets going. It's a joke anyway, I bet Real and others will keep spending big even with the FFP... It's just a problem if clubs like Chelsea, City, PSG et all do it.

What time are you referring to and what statistics did this midfield have? Personally I think you are talking utter shit and should apologize for making everyone in this thread feel dumber.FishnChips wrote:I don't give a flying fuck whoever agrees or not. Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
Apologize? Who do you think you are?
If you bothered to read one of my posts, I'm talking about our defence under Hiddink and Ancelotti. I didn't call it the best in the world, I called it one of if not England's best defense. We had Ashley Cole at his very best alongside JT and Alex with Ivanovic at rightback.
We held Barcelona in a season in which we were counted out in every competition, with no confidence whatsoever under a manager who was clueless. Granted they won over the two legs but it took a brilliant shot like Iniesta's to send us out and a blatantly biased ref.
In 2009/2010 under Ancelotti United's defense let in less goals than we did but lost one match more than we did, and add to that our goal difference of +71 to United's +58.
It's harder to use statistics with midfields, but having Essien at the best football days of his life, who against Barcelona kept Messi right in his pocket along Lampard with a chip on his shoulder, an on-fire Michael Ballack and a Florent Malouda who didn't look like Florent Malouda, they had us scoring goals for fun.
Now who's midfield do you think was the best at that time? United's? Liverpool's? Arsenal's? City's?
I don't get how it sounds so ludicrous to say we had the best midfield IN ENGLAND at that time...

Feel like i've not thought about how well AvB could change the team, Last week and other week's I've been saying I hope he get's the sack but then I thought about it more and he has the chance to help us, Obviously not this year.
But IF Roman gives him time and the funds he need's to replace Drog, Lampard, JT, and all the other nasty wood and AvB start's to give lad's like Bertrand runs out now we might just be very dangerous in years to come.
So i've changed my mind about AvB, I believe him.

Re: Chelsea FC Official thread
I have it on good authority that the reason why certain young talents aren't being played is because Lampard, Terry, Cole and Drogba have far too much power in the club and are creating a split in the dressing room between the old and the new.
Apparently when AvB wants to drop certainplayers he has been recieving contradictory instructions from Roman.

Cameron aims to 'crush' racism
PM believes problem can be dealt with if people play their part
Swift action is required to "crush" any return of racism to football before it impacts on wider society, Prime Minister David Cameron has said.
The PM said he had seen for himself the influence that behaviour on the pitch could exercise over young children and others off it.
But, speaking at the opening of a Downing Street anti-discrimination summit with former players and football bosses, he expressed confidence that the good work of two decades in battling prejudice in the sport would not be lost.
Mr Cameron said: "If everyone plays their role, then we can easily crush and deal with this problem."
He told the panel, including former England stars John Barnes and Graeme Le Saux, that he often took his young son to local football matches and had seen the impact the game had.
"What happens on the field influences what happens off the field. You see children as young as six imitating the behaviour they see on the field," said Mr Cameron.
"So this is not just important for football, it's important for the whole country."
The Prime Minister said there were many "extraordinary role models" among professional footballers but that problems with racism had "crept back in".
"We want to make sure football is all about a power to do good, rather than anything else," he said.
The event to promote a more "inclusive" sport comes amid fears that high-profile incidents are harming football's image.
Earlier this month Liverpool forward Luis Suarez was forced to apologise for refusing to shake hands with Manchester United's Patrice Evra before the teams' match. Suarez had only recently returned to action for Liverpool following a ban for racially abusing Evra during a game in October.
England star John Terry is due to face trial over the summer on charges of racially abusing QPR's Anton Ferdinand. Terry denies the charges.
The meeting is also looking at homophobia, with Amal Fashanu, who recently made a documentary about homosexuality in the sport, 14 years after her footballer uncle Justin hanged himself, also among those attending.
Mr Cameron said the UK should be proud of the "fantastic achievement" of the campaign to rid the sport of racism over the past two decades - noting that other countries had failed to take similar action.
Act quickly
"But we have some problems still today. We need to act quickly to make sure those problems do not creep back in.
"I hope what we can agree today is to make sure that everybody who has the ability to deal with this issue takes the steps they can. I am sure we can crack this problem."
That included the Government, clubs and other football bodies, he suggested.
Mr Cameron joked that he felt embarrassed coming from question time in the Commons to address the issue as it was "a contact sport that sets an appalling example to people".
Football Association chairman David Bernstein said his organisation was working at all levels from the grass roots up to deal with the issue and was determined not to allow any complacency because of the past success.
The governing body had already shown its willingness to deploy "very tough sanctions where necessary", he said - calling for action across the board from fans to players to managers, chairmen and authorities.
