Swiss courts can be funny at times. Although FIFA also happens to be headquarters in Switerland so this could get interesting quite interesting in no time.Sion claim they have started legal proceedings against members of FIFA's executive committee over the governing body's threat to suspend Switzerland from world football.
The row, which dates back to Sion's expulsion from the Europa League in September for signing and playing players while under a transfer embargo, has seen FIFA ask the Swiss Football Association to take action against the club.
On December 17, FIFA asked for Sion to be docked domestic points they won while fielding the players deemed to be ineligible for action and said if nothing was done by January 14 all Swiss national and club sides would be banned from UEFA and FIFA competition.
As things stand, that would affect Basle, who knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League and are due to face Bayern Munich in February.
But, in a statement released on their official website, the Swiss club said: "FC Sion has now filed a criminal complaint against executive members of the committee of FIFA after the threat to exclude the Helvetic Federation and clubs affiliated to it.
"The complaint was sent to the prosecutor in Zurich. It is directed against anyone who participated or contributed to the decision of the FIFA.''
The Swiss club were put under a transfer embargo over the signing of Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, but proceeded to sign six players in the summer.Sion then fielded five of the six players during the Europa League play-off tie against Celtic earlier this year and were kicked out of the competition as a result, with UEFA's decision to expel them upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport

Sion could go bust for all I care. Disgraceful how they've acted.

Because they won't allow the most corrupt organisation in sport to bully them into doing what they want?

They were told not to field those players, but they did. They broke the rules and got punished.

They broke the rules, they should accept the punishment.

Plus, it's selfish for them to appeal when Basel's place is at stake.

But what if the rules are unlawful and unfair?

I think right now it would be too complicated to rearrange everything so probably whoever got Basel would get a bye into the next round unless UEFA would be ok replacing Manchester United in the Europa League with the 4th place team from that champions league group. I guess the best 3rd place Europa League said could replace United.

They were under a transfer embargo and they signed players, they have no excuse, they cant play by their own rules

Once a Jean-marc Bosman was told by Fifa he had to play by Fifa's rules despite them being unlawful.
Don't know who won that case.

I see your mistake mate.
For future reference, illegible IS NOT the same word as ineligible. They have very different meanings.
English is not my primary language so you confused me.

Fifa told Bosman he couldn't leave his club unless they were paid.

Yea, but Bosman wanted to change a rule that he felt was stopping his career, Sion got caught breaking the rules and so refused to accept their punishment. Its different
