Edit: He didn't simply accept Chelsea's money he got offered I don't think, they were stuck in discussing personal terms for a while, he demanded a lot and it seems he got it.
By the way, the Cahill saga was a tad similar to the Campbell saga from ten years ago, contract talks all the time, mid-table club, good English defender, and also foreign clubs linked, apparently Barca were interested in Cahill too.
