The only way Spain is ahead of England is in players because they have the 2 best in the world. Our league is way more competitive.

You are overrating the Premier League. There isn't that big of a gap between the two leagues. Average attendances are pretty close between the two. Bundesliga destroys both in average attendance.

As for European competitions, La Liga beats the Premier League. Barcelona won 2 CL titles in the past 3 years and Spain has 5 different clubs in the top 20 clubs in the UEFA Club Coefficient, while England has only 3 clubs.

The talent of players is greater in La Liga. It's not just about Messi and Ronaldo. Only 2 PL players made it in the UEFA Team of the Year just a few days ago. Even at the lower clubs, La Liga clubs have more skilled individuals.

The PL isn't any more competitive than La Liga. If you look at past winners, it's always the same teams winning the PL just as it's always the same teams winning La Liga.

The Maestro wrote:Are you serious? Marginally higher attendances do not prove a club is better. For example, Al Ahly get attendances of around 75,000 per game. Are they better than Tottenham who don't get half of that?

No, we don't. shifty 75K is the capacity of the stadium and we only fill it up for CL matches and important local matches.

Forget Al Ahly then. Celtic, get 50,000 a game, are we better than Tottenham? No.

Average attendances is not a rational way to gauge who has a better team.

I'm not getting into this argument fully, but I'd just like to point out the European coefficients here. Not once have Spain had higher.

Of course I know. And thanks Zzonked for posting what I was talking about.

Ahly the league as a whole is more competitive, not jut the top. But to focus on your point, a competitive league doesn't have to have different winners. The competition just has to be better. Even if Man U win this season, they've still had more competition than the top 2 in La Liga have had.

The way I see it, only ManUtd and ManCity are realistically fighting for the title. Barca and Real are the only ones realistically fighting for their title. Both leagues always have two clubs every year that are realistically fighting for the title.

Just on the point of which league is more competitive, the bottom 10 of La Liga get more points per game than the bottom 10 of the Premiership.

"the way I see it" From your biased view.

PL - Top 2 on same points, Man City have game in hand. (Miniumum of 0 points difference after GIH)
La Liga - 8 points seperates the top 2, Barcelona have game in hand. (Min 5 points difference after GIH)

PL - 1st place to 3rd place seperated by 2 points, 5 points if Man City win game in hand.
La Liga - 1st place to 3rd place seperated by 12 points.

PL - 1st - 4th seperated by 8 points, 11 if Man City win game in hand.
La Liga - 16 points, 13 if Levante win their game in hand on Madrid.

At the bottom of the table

PL - Bottom 5 seperated by 3 points. If Wigan win their game in hand, could be 2 points.
La Liga - Bottom 5 seperated by 8 points. If Santander win their game in hand, could be 9 points.

Biggest point gap in the league between positions
    PL - 3rd - 4th 6 points gap
La Liga - 1st - 2nd 8 point gap (5 if Barca win game in hand)

Points difference between top and bottom
    PL - 33 points
    La Liga - 35 points

PL = more competitive on most levels.

Points is one way of showing how competitive a league is. Then I can fall back on results such as Blackburns at OT. Newcastle's v Man U, Sunderlands v Man City.

Ahly proved he didn't have much to come back at me with his very immature response.

GARY Hooper has reiterated his desire to remain at Celtic and help deliver the club success over the remainder of the campaign. Speculation has mounted of big-money bids being tabled for the prolific striker during the January transfer window.

But the Englishman, who made a goalscoring return to the team on Saturday following a groin injury, insists he’s happy in Paradise and firmly focused on football matters.

Speaking exclusively the official Celtic website, Hooper said: “I’m very happy. I’m back playing now and scored at the weekend. It was good to be back in the team.

“I don’t want to go anywhere. I’m a Celtic player and very happy here, winning games for Celtic and we’re two points clear at the top of the league just now. I’m just focusing on football - training, playing and scoring goals – that’s my job.

Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Dundee United at the weekend was their 11th successive SPL win, preserving their position at the league summit.

However, the 23-year-old stressed that no-one among the squad was looking further ahead than their next fixture.

“We have to take it game by game,” he said. “Our aim is to win every game and perform like we did in the first half and parts of the second half on Saturday. I think we’re performing well and scoring goals, so it’s looking good."

Hooper plundered his 16th goal of the season against the Terrors with a typical clinical finish following good supply work from Anthony Stokes. That strike put him one ahead of the Irishman in their duel to finish top of the goalscoring charts.

Although that raised a smile from Hooper, collective success remains his overriding priority.

“I’m back in front by one, but we're both here to score goals, and the main thing is winning games,” said the Hoops hitman. “I’m enjoying my football,” he added. “I had a little groin strain, but I’m back playing and Stokesy and I are linking up well.

“He set me up at the weekend, and Victor had a great header as well, and we got the three points which is always the main thing.”

Still, I never saw what was so great about him, he's a solid defender who reads the game well and chips in with the odd goal, hoofs the ball forward a lot too although that may have been Bolton's tactics.

Edit: He didn't simply accept Chelsea's money he got offered I don't think, they were stuck in discussing personal terms for a while, he demanded a lot and it seems he got it Official 2012 January Transfer Window Thread - Page 23 279869.

By the way, the Cahill saga was a tad similar to the Campbell saga from ten years ago, contract talks all the time, mid-table club, good English defender, and also foreign clubs linked, apparently Barca were interested in Cahill too Laughing
