I am glad because I personally think Samba is better then Cahill. Cahill is a bit overrated imo.
Also hoping we sell some dead wood players like Gomes, Pav, Pienaar.

McLeish has spoken with Dalglish and he said he is not interested in Bent at all.

Well we've had bids for Pav but levy wants big money for him. Heard he's holding out for around 11/12m for him, which noone would/will pay

Sky Sports understands Brighton are eyeing a move for Hull City striker Aaron Mclean in this month's transfer window. #BHAFC #HCAFC

Long-serving defender Nyron Nosworthy has made a permanent move to Watford. Good luck Nugsy!
For you Lux.

We're told Kris Boyd considering offer from MLS Cup finalists Houston Dynamo. Interest from three English clubs too.
Bit of a fall from grace? From Rangers to Boro/Forest on loan to some turkish side wasn't it? to the MLS (no offence to Americans)

MLS making the same mistake they made 50 years ago. Buying washed up talent and having them try to "improve" the league by giving them wages they by no means deserve. Never learn...

Doubt it unless they are going to pay the £1.6m that Hull paid. He has found a nice role as a right forward, rather than being on the wing or playing up front alone.

True. Problem is that when you do this rather than bring in exciting young talent from abroad, or invest heavily in youth development, you just reduce the quality of the league. If the MLS wants to become one of the best leagues in the world they can't go around and buy players who aren't cutting it in Europe any longer.

Id say MLS do invest a fair bit in youth devolpment, you have the likes of Andy Najar, Juan Agudelo, Omar Gonzalez etc who have all been brought through the ranks to become important members of their teams. Plus they have recently introduced a reserve league to try and give young players more time.
Also, the DP rule means that a team cant have more than 3 superstar players if you like on high wages, the likes of Beckham and Henry, so there wont be a repeat of a team full of overpaid players like the Cosmos in the 70's.

Don't want to sound disrespectful, but US leagues gets no coverage outside US and frankly no is bothered/interested.
In the UK that is, can't speak for the entire world.

I agree that they have taken a handful of steps to improve, but in my opinion they still have a lot to sort out.
The DP rule is all well and good, if used to it's full extent. However they keep going for players who are near "retirement" rather than players who are stars right now. If they can offer 200k a week to a player then why not go for some of the big guns? I'm sure there are plenty of fairly high quality players who aren't in the twilight of their careers that could be convinced to play for the MLS given the right financial incentive.
Right now the DP rule is useless. With the small exception of a small number of players. (Landon Donovan being one).

No that's understandable. Same could be said about Euro basketball or hockey leagues here, it's just how it goes.
MLS needs to continue to work on developing homegrown talent. The purchasing of bigger players is about driving up short term revenue so we can invest in the proper infrastructure. For Example, Toronto FC under Aron Winter and owned by the Toronto Maple Leafs, are building a new 20million+ dollar academy. We are now seeing talent coming into our first team quicker than kids we have drafted out of American Colleges.
This isn't a short term solution and there really isn't any short term permanent solution but the sport is growing here very fast and with the money now being invested by the large sports clubs and with N.A superiority at running professional sports leagues, it may not be as long as we all think before MLS can attract top players in their prime.
It's all about the fans here though and that's always in question

Fair enough, but aside from the likes of Becks and Henry, signing players like that doesn't really make sense in terms of revenue either. Boyd is hardly going to be selling that many shirts is he?

Seen it......I'm very pleased
He's a good Championship defender, means we now have 3 centre backs who are all good enough to play for most teams in the league.

Not directly no but being competitive and trying to put a better product on the field is going to drive up TV and stadium revenue. TFC signed Frings and Koevermans, who are both well past it in terms of European Football but are good against MLS players. It excited people here because it made TFC seem relevant in MLS when compared to the only two larger cities in the league (NY and LA). Will it translate to more wins next season now that they are familiar with the league? Who knows, but selling seats in the meantime is important. Canadian teams are building up Canadian talent, we have one more team entering the league next season and maybe 3-5 clubs getting closer each year. Soccer is becoming a big deal here, I can't speak for the U.S.
Basically, we aren't competing against Euro football right now, we don't even play our schedule at the same time of year. We don't need Europe for MLS to have teams that make a lot of cash and put a good product on the field. MLS's biggest threat is Baseball and after that the winter sports here of Football, Basketball and Hockey.
When MLS can be secure in this environment, it can look towards Europe and by then the foundation will be so strong that it will compete just fine. We still have a long way to go though
I do agree though that signing these players is not a permanent solution. Some markets have a more difficult time drawing fans than others and this helps get headlines for your club in a super competitive sports market
Edit to add that in March, TFC will to sell out the Rogers Centre, (60,000ish) for the CCL match between us and the Galaxy. May not seem like a big deal over there but here its newsworthy

Yeah but they also got Sigurosson on loan so there's no way he will get that many games. Pretty sure Sigurosson didn't join to be on the bench when he's been doing that for most of the season so far.
Would be great if they could both start though.
