Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
Agreed, thought this was the toughest test from our last 4 games remaining from now till the new year and we were superb, if we can keep this kind of form then we might reach City. They've got a tough fixture list in January so they might drop points there and hopefully we will capitalise.

Re: Manchester United FC Official Thread
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has opened up on his tense
relationship with Red Devils manager Alex Ferguson and has defended his
right to criticise his former club. Following United's embarrassing exit from the Champions League last week
Keane, working as a television pundit, said he felt Manchester United
had "got what they deserved".
In response, Ferguson questioned Keane's managerial record, saying
"[Roy] had an opportunity to prove himself as a manager [of Sunderland
and Ipswich Town] too."
The 12-time Premier League-winning manager also wrote in his programme
notes for the recent game against Wolves that he was surprised by
criticism "even from people we thought were perhaps on our side".
Keane, who played under Ferguson in seven of United's 12 Premier League
title-winning seasons, hit back at his former manager, saying: "There
was an angle there of trying to get the fans to look differently at me
and I thought 'I can't have that'. I thought it was ridiculous.
"I can hardly do the TV wearing the United scarf, and if me telling the
young players to pull their socks up is such a hard thing to accept, I
ask myself what kind of world are we living in.
"I know how this works, absolutely.
"When I spoke to Alex about management before I left United, the two words he always used were power and control.
"I understand power and control over people inside the football club,
understand that 100 per cent. But not power and control of the people
who have left the club.
"He's trying to have power and control over me but I left Man United six years ago.
"So I just thought, 'You didn't need to go there', but having said that, it didn’t surprise me.
"If you want to question my managerial record, listen, you could
question every pundit’s managerial skill in relation to his and we’re
all going to come up short.
"But I would also say that without players like myself, maybe he
wouldn't have such a good managerial record because players who go down
the punditry road, it's soon forgotten that we put bodies on the line
for him."
Keane also opened old wounds, accusing Ferguson of failing to stand by him following his ugly exit from United in 2005.
"People say he stood by me in difficult times," Keane said.
"But he didn't when I was 34, not when I was towards the end and had a few differences with [club coach] Carlos Queiroz.
"All of a sudden then, 'Off you go, Roy, and here's the statement we've done'."
Keane also revealed his former employers threatened to take legal action
against him in April 2008 after he criticised the club following his
move to Celtic which, in turn, led to him snubbing the 25th anniversary
celebrations of Ferguson's tenure in charge.
"But I would also say that without players like myself, maybe he
wouldn't have such a good managerial record because players who go down
the punditry road, it's soon forgotten that we put bodies on the line
for him." That line in particular stood out to me.

That interview supports what I said about Alexander Ferguson, about his autocracy, his need to constantly be in control. I have no idea how Queiroz, a former international and Real Madrid manager ever got a job as Ass. Man. at United, but it was a highly successful period when he was, because he wasn't afraid to stand up to Ferguson.

That's great stuff, obviously means he'll sign the contract.

£30m
He's a good player and will help you a lot if SAF can get him back into a good run of form, from the little I've seen of him this year he doesn't look half as good as last season

Because he ripped us a new one when we played against Benfica. It seems to be the way we find new players these days.
Edit:
Also, I don't really care how autocratic Fergie is. He gets results, he keeps our players mostly under control, and he doesn't tolerate bullshit (although more now than before unfortunately). I can assure you that José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola are equally autocratic. Fergie isn't wrong when he says that "the most important person in the club is the manager, and the players can never forget that". Just look at Chelsea.

£30m is a lot to be fair, but imo he's better than Di Maria so it's worth it.

He is? I've heard that we won't get him this January though, but maybe we are paying that bit extra so that Benfica will be nice with us and release him early

As long as we get him I guess. Still need better midfielders though
