Easiest way to win the title when in division 1 is sticking to 4 star teams and lower. Try Palermo, Ireland and Cameroon. Won the title with 7 wins and a draw using them.

Think that applies to all divisions tbh. I've been using 4 star teams and below for ages now, so much so that I can't use 5 star teams anymore. It's just ridiculous, the players block every single thing and home in on you with twice the speed of light.
