We've played shit before and qualified in first (last year comes to mind) its just this year we missed chances and made mistakes in defence.

Last time we went out of the group stages was in 2005. The following season we lost in the Semi final, we then won it, lost in the final the season after, made the 1/4 finals, then made it to the final again.

Yes but we were building a good team then, Ronaldo and Rooney maturing etc.. our team is actually shit now so it's not comparable.

If this doesn't show enough that we need a new midfielder then I don't know what is.

Cleverley - notoriously injury prone

I realised in the summer that having such central midfielders would cost us, why didn't Ferguson? The answer is because he is not as knowledgeable about football as I am. He should quit tonight, and if he doesn't, the Glazers should fire him and bring in Capello.
