Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
Stop trying to force your players to do stuff. They are good enough to make decisions on their own. Also if you are going to play a fluid formation, you want them to roam around the field trying to find space.
On team instructions, I just tend to set the marking and creative freedom bits. The rest should be edited in the player instructions depending on your opponents to exploit their weaknesses. If you just want a single formation that works constantly, it will only work for half a season.
Your formation has no width either, both wingers cut inside, 3 central midfielders and you are only playing with full backs that wont be too adventurous.
That's just basic stuff, you need to build your team to work together depending on the players you have.

No matter what, I always use Drill Crosses. They are much more effective than floating crosses into the box.

Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
Also, why would you play with a target man and then drill crosses?

Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
Drill crosses are better than floating ones, especially when you have a short team like Barca.

Yeah, that wont work for long. You are limiting your players by giving them strict instructions. If a player is used to passing it short, he will pass it short.. He wont need telling. Do you think Guardiola tells Xavi to play short and not long, direct passes?
Playing constantly the same way, especially as a big team, will make them even more defensive and used to the way you play. You'll get to the point where it stops working.

Agreed, but not when you have a target man up front. Infact, Barcelona type teams shouldn't cross the ball that much unless they are in the box then it will just be a typical pass across goal.
The only players who are allowed to cross are my wing backs, and that's only when they are at the byline anyway.

Also, if you try getting players to close down aggressively then you've gotta make sure you have the players to do so. If they have low stamina and workrate and you tell them to press higher and more aggressive, it wont work. They'll not bother or if they do they'll do it at a slower tempo and it will just pull players out of position and leaving you ready to be exploited.

Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
Barcelona type play is possible on this game, it's just hard and lots of tinkering is needed depending on opponents.
I'm still finding it hard to do the same away from home.
@Start, no idea. What kind of challenge do you want? Making a small team to a big club? Try to improve a league? Go for a SAF type of challenge?

Erm, I'd love to try and make a small team into a amazing one, but I actually doubt i'd be able too.

Re: The Football Manager Chat Thread!
Btw look at the fixtures on the top of that screenshot. PSG in a league game and then 2 days later Lyon in the cup. Could have at least had that game on the Wednesday, to make it worse I put a full team out against PSG and lost 3-2 in the final minute.
I need to tone down my wing backs in away games I reckon.

Got Ranger and Moyo from the geordies on-loan. Cerny a GK from Hamilton for 95k, got no-one else. Got a good squad already.
