    Post by Weather130 Wed Sep 10, 2014 10:55 am

    With the first round of qualifiers played this week it seems the proper time to make this thread.  So far this qualification tournament has been a bit more interesting than normal possible due to the expansion to 24 teams.  Some interesting this so far;

    Andorra lead Wales for about 20 minutes 1-0
    Estonia upset Slovenia 1-0
    Czech Republic beat the Netherlands 2-1
    Albania shocked Portugal 1-0
    Iceland demolished Turkey 3-0
    Bosnia and Herzegovina fell 1-2 to Cyprus

    Some real inspiring performances yesterday. Bunch of US kids accomplished what the Netherlands couldn't in beating Czech Republic.

    Portugal is awe inspiring.

    The own-assist for the Czech Republic winning goal was really something. He managed to put it out of reach of the keeper, while still managing to avoid only putting it behind for a corner.

    There's other stuff. Welbeck said he wanted to emulate Henry ages ago, plus both of them were being played on the wing before signing for Arsenal. I think part of the expectation is that Welbeck could be moved to striker and be reborn like Henry, but obviously he is on a different planet in terms of ability so it wont happen.

    Not sure why. Must be an ego thing. Like, Casillas will cost them a spot in the KOs in 2016 if he keeps his spot.

    I didn't watch the Spain game, but I'm surprised with the result. Why is Spain doing so poorly? In the World Cup, I'd blame Casillas and the moral blow of the Netherlands game mostly.

    I don't really buy into the whole they are not good enough argument, because those players are still performing well for club.

    Their back three was Casillas, Pique, and Albiol. Simply put, del Bosque has lost the plot and needs to go.

    Considering that I have some Slovak heritage watching the end of Slovakia v Spain was amazing and I never really thought Slovakia could actually beat Spain.  If it was not for university I would have watched the entire game.
