Re: The tennis thread.
I'm sure it's got nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Federer is back near the top of his game and Nadal can't handle him off clay.

I'm in complete agreement with you, highly unlikely.ResurrectionRooney wrote:I'm sure it's got nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Federer is back near the top of his game and Nadal can't handle him off clay.

Re: The tennis thread.
Nadal can only handle him on one surface and has the much better head to head record. Seems legit.ResurrectionRooney wrote:I'm sure it's got nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Federer is back near the top of his game and Nadal can't handle him off clay.
Edit: A lot closer on grass and hard, but still, thats obviously not the reason.

Their record off clay is 8-6 in favour of Federer. Nadal has the overall advantage in head to head because he's not normally good enough to qualify to face Federer in non-clay competitions.

It obviously is the fucking reason!

Re: The tennis thread.
Why is it obviously the reason? Assuming we're talking about it being the reason Rafa pulled out of the olympics. (That's what I thought Danny was referring too)

Re: The tennis thread.
Olympics is best of 3 sets too, that definitely wouldn't work in Rafa's favour. Plus he hates England.

Re: The tennis thread.
What is this backing up? Is this just input or do you actually believe Rafa didn't go to the Olympics because of the Federer thing and you're adding that to it?Pico wrote:Olympics is best of 3 sets too, that definitely wouldn't work in Rafa's favour. Plus he hates England.

Re: The tennis thread.
I don't think Federer had anything to do with it, no, but I believe there are several reasons why he won't be going and none of them are to do with his knees.

It's obviously the reason he has a superior head to head record, because he rarely appears against Federer except on his favourite surface. Federer shows up on all surfaces.

Yes, that's definitely right.. but I don't know if Danny was referring to that.ResurrectionRooney wrote:kyro7 wrote:Why is it obviously the reason? Assuming we're talking about it being the reason Rafa pulled out of the olympics. (That's what I thought Danny was referring too)

EDIT: All this said though, if Rafa met Federer for example in the 2010 US Open I think he'd have taken him to pieces, there has been times Roger isn't good enough as well.

What reason do you have to believe that?Pico wrote:I don't think Federer had anything to do with it, no, but I believe there are several reasons why he won't be going and none of them are to do with his knees.

Re: The tennis thread.
It doesn't matter if I'd agree or disagree, I'm not trying to argue/have a go at you just trying to understand why you think that when it's such a big occasion for him to carry the flag at the olympics, to me it seems like an event he could only not play if he really couldn't, maybe I'm being naive but I believe he's not in good enough health to play to a high standard, in my mind for him to not attend because of the country, the amount of sets it is, the surface, seems crazy.

I'm not sure Danny ever knows what Danny is going on aboutkyro7 wrote:Yes, that's definitely right.. but I don't know if Danny was referring to that.ResurrectionRooney wrote:

And yeah, once, Federer's been in 6 Wimbledon Finals since Nadal won his first Grand Slam, Nadal's turned up to only 3 of them, Federer's played Nadal at the French 5 times, as well as 8 other Clay Finals, and one other Semi, that's something Nadal couldn't do on any other surface because he isn't good enough. Federer's exceptional ability on Clay is the main reason for Nadal's H2H superiority.

Re: The tennis thread.
I agree with that, I always said Federer is amazing on clay, it took Rafa a lot to adapt to win all the slams, not something he could do consistently though, pretty much why Federer is the GOAT.ResurrectionRooney wrote:I'm not sure Danny ever knows what Danny is going on about

Though from 2006 to 2011 getting to every final of Wimbledon where he entered the competition is impressive.
Do you have any reason for that or you just think it for no reason?Pico wrote:Well there's a reason at the very top of this page.

Well the circumstances of it all are so suspicious, who knows.
Perhaps he's just a terrible loser these days. He certainly was vs Rosol.

Re: The tennis thread.
He was awful during the match, he apologised to Rosol a few times according to Rosol, doesn't make it right but I think he knows how he acted was bang out of order, to me it doesn't make sense as to why that'd link to him pulling out though.
I think it's a bit strong to say about the drug test though, but you never know.

Re: The tennis thread.
Well he is Spanish and the whole doping in tennis thing has been suspiciously quiet, especially given how the game is suddenly 753289 times more physical than it was a few years ago.
If any of the top players were to get caught, however, it would ruin the sport completely - much like cycling. I wouldn't be surprised if the ITF kept quiet.

...why the fuck did I pick 2011 instead of 2012 to go to Hamburg?

Re: The tennis thread.
Bartoli fell part in that last game there, Cibulkova wins it, only her second title.
