No, death will be my salvation. I look forward to it. I fear the impact of my death on those who are close to me though.

Eternal nothingness frightens me if I'm honest. I just like being alive too much.

Have you ever had a dreamless sleep? Picture that, forever.ahlycotc wrote:Bogdan wrote:Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
No.
Why else would you fear death then? If you believe there is an afterlife, you would fear death if you think the afterlife will be bad. If you don't believe anything will happen after you die and are still scared, than you fell insignificant. Provide me another explanation and I might agree.

Yeah, because you can't get shot in other places and die a slow, painful death.

First of all, once you enter REM sleep, you always dream. Second of all, you won't feel anything. So what is there to fear?

Yeah but if I had a shotgun aimed at my head I would be scared of dying, not scared of the 'pain'.

You know, it's the anticipation of imminent nothingness that could terrify someone. You just can't prepare for it, it's too final, too unavoidable.

But he was specifically talking about the instances where you die a painful, slow death.

Ok but let's hypothetically say I have a shotgun aimed towards my head would I be immoral for being scared of death then?ahlycotc wrote:Theo Filippo wrote:Yeah but if I had a shotgun aimed at my head I would be scared of dying, not scared of the 'pain'.

Re: Are you scared of dying?
Is that even relevant? No, in a dreamless sleep you fall asleep, 8 or so hours pass and and you wake up. Except in death that period where nothing happens is there always.ahlycotc wrote:Theo Filippo wrote:Yeah getting shot in the head with a shotgun will be very painful indeed.

There is always something happening when you sleep, you just don't always remember it when you wake up. So my question again is, what is there to fear if you die in your sleep? You won't feel a thing. This eternal period of nothingness you are mentioning won't be felt.

No. You just aren't thinking rationally. I said the only reasons people SHOULD be scared of death is if you fear consequences after you die or you are uneasy with the fact you are insignificant in the universe. I would also like to add if you fear that others close to you will suffer because of your death.

You should be scared of armageddon and the prospect of meeting your creator.

I don't fear meeting my creator, in fact, I look forward to the day.

While I do agree that you should look forward to said day, having no fear shows a distinct lack of respect.

It's the nothingness, a nothingness you can't even be aware of. If that doesn't worry you you're mental.ahlycotc wrote:Bogdan wrote:Is that even relevant? I didn't say I didn't commit sins. Even if I go to Hell initially, I still look forward to the prospect of entering Heaven at one time. Having said that, I'm currently indifferent towards death. I actually lied a bit when I said I look forward to death.

If there is nothingness and I can't feel anything, why should I be worried? I will have nothing to worry about.

So you do fear death if you believe you could initially enter Hell ?

Not really. If I were to pass away today, I would be indifferent towards it. Hopefully, I can work to becoming a more moral person in the future, at which point I would be looking forward to death.

I don't understand that kind of fear. It's nothing, you won't feel anything, you just won't 'be' anymore. No pain, no feelings, so you just go back to being what you were before you were born, hypothetically. That's nothing to fear, imo.
