Anyone ever watch Avatar: The Last Airbender?

Used to love that show even though I was in high school when it first came out. I guess it was because I was always into the elemental side of the show with water, earth, fire and air (wind). The 4 nations thing was interesting as well.


Anyways, they're working on a new series based in the future of the original series for those who have heard about it.

Who's your favorite character Rei? Mines has to be Sokka. Great comic relief. Liked Zuko a bit a well and Iroh was pretty cool as well.

There was a Avatar marathon this weekend which began on Friday. It showed all 3 books (seasons). I actually ended up watching like 10-12 episodes.

Watched Book 1 up till the near end, then they stopped showing it in the UK for some reason and now I can't be arsed to get back into it.

Maybe once I catch up on my other anime I'll give it another go.

The second and third books are far better. Also, I wouldn't really consider it an anime. It's American and not Japanese first of all but it's also drawn and animated a bit different than Japanese anime as well. There are influences from anime and other Asian cultures such as Korean but the primary influences in Avatar are from Chinese culture and history.

That is true but I heard many of its fans argue against the inaccuracy of it being labeled an anime.

I agree to an extent because its like giving the Japanese media respect despite the show being American.

I liked this show in high school as well.

Do you think it's worth the time to spend my nights watching the old series? I only watched up to when the Fire Nation invaded the North Water Nation.

Yeah, you missed the best part of the series to be honest. The first season was okay but the show improved greatly in the later seasons (books) in terms of animation, plot, comic relief, etc.

Also, if your considering watching the upcoming series of Avatar based 70 years in the futre, then I'd recommend finishing it off to get a better understanding of it. Personally, I think the end of the second season and beginning-middle of the third season are the best.
